Climate change is already affecting the way we live and work, and the food sector is no exception. Rising temperatures, water shortages, extreme weather events and changing agricultural conditions are influencing how food is produced, sourced and prepared.

While reducing our environmental impact remains essential, there is another challenge we need to address: learning how to adapt to the changes that are already happening.

This is where EDU_CLIMATE – Introducing Climate Change Adaptation in VET comes in.

Co-funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ Programme, EDU_CLIMATE is a European project that aims to bring climate change adaptation into vocational education and training (VET), with a particular focus on the culinary sector.

Bringing climate adaptation into education

The project starts from a simple idea: preparing future professionals for climate change means giving them the knowledge and practical skills to respond to its effects.

EDU_CLIMATE supports VET students, teachers and training centres in understanding what climate adaptation means and how it can be applied in everyday life and professional environments.

For future chefs and food professionals, this means becoming more aware of how climate change affects ingredients, resources, supply chains and working practices, and learning to make informed decisions in a changing environment.

From knowledge to practical tools

To make climate adaptation more accessible and relevant to vocational education, EDU_CLIMATE will develop a set of educational resources and digital tools.

One of the project’s main results will be the EDU_CLIMATE App, an interactive learning tool featuring short educational content, real-life examples and practical adaptation strategies.

The project will also produce training materials and guidelines for VET centres, helping educators introduce climate adaptation into their teaching activities.

These resources will be tested with students and teachers across Europe, allowing the partnership to collect feedback and improve the materials based on real educational needs.

A European partnership

EDU_CLIMATE brings together five organisations from four European countries: the Netherlands, France, Spain and Italy.

Coordinated by Stichting Landstede (Netherlands), the partnership includes Chambre de Métiers et de l’Artisanat Pays de la Loire (France), Erasmus Valencia International Centre (Spain), Lula Consulting (Italy) and Fondazione Lombardia per l’Ambiente (Italy).

By combining expertise in vocational education, environmental sustainability and digital innovation, the partners are working to make climate adaptation a more concrete and accessible part of professional training.

Follow the EDU_CLIMATE journey

Throughout the project, we will share updates on our activities, educational resources, digital tools and experiences from VET centres across Europe.
